The South China Morning Post reports that Shi Zhengli, the researcher at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) P4 Lab who has captured the attention of the world’s intelligence agencies, has posted on WeChat to deny having defected to France.
Chinese virologist at centre of ‘coronavirus came from a laboratory’ claim denies defecting
The Chinese virologist whose work has been the subject of controversial theories about the origin of the novel coronavirus has dismissed rumours that she has defected from China.Shi Zhengli, a renowned researcher of bat coronaviruses, wrote on WeChat on Saturday that she and her family had not fled the country, despite coming under heavy scrutiny amid concerns that the virus responsible for the Covid-19 pandemic had originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in central China where she works.
As a proof of being in China, this “Bat Lady” WeChat post designed to quell rumors that she defected is missing one rather important thing–a picture of Shi with her family in PRC. pic.twitter.com/JRPyLgS7ja

Kyle Olbert, human rights researcher, also opined that something strange was afoot, noting Shi Zhengli’s use the “three raised fists” by which supporters of controversial exiled dissident billionaire & HNA whistleblower Guo Wengui often identify themselves.
It’s eyebrow-raising that Bat Lady #ShiZhengli used three raised fists ✊✊✊ in her WeChat post — a series of emojis by which supporters of #GuoWengui (#MilesKwok) identify themselves — esp. since Mr. Guo has recently alluded to a defector from the #Wuhan Institute of Virology. https://t.co/89WBdGQZMP

And indeed, a quick search of Twitter does show that the “three raised fists” are a common means by which Guo supporters identify themselves.
So what are we to make of all of this?
Has Shi Zhengli actually defected?
Is she actually a Guo Wengui (Miles Kwok) supporter?
Or is this an effort to confuse people?
Most importantly, if it’s not Shi Zhengli, then who is the Wuhan Institute of Virology defector that was alluded to here on War Room: Pandemic a little more than a week ago?
